Xcaret in Cancun and the Riviera Maya was recently recognized as the best international theme park and the best water park. The popular eco park won the 2016 Travvy Award held in New York City. It reached the finals along with Tokyo Disneyland and Universal Studios Japan for the category of Best International Theme Park. In the category of Best Overall Water Park , Xcaret shared it with Blue Diamonds Resorts and Dolphin Discovery.
Xcaret is located by the sea and has many unique activities that you can do in the jungle, whether it´s discovering the area´s many underground rivers, local wildlife, swimming with turtles or an ATV ride.  Rodrigo Motavelasco Loera, Business Development Manager for Experience Xcaret, received the Travvy 2016 Awards on behalf of the park.
Awards are based on a rigorous 3 step selection process where recipients are considered to be the best in travel. Once all entries are submitted from July until October, travel agents then choose who they believe are the best of the best in each category. Aneditorial team determines the final two winners in each category and all winners were announced  in New York City on January 2016 at the 2016 Travvy Awards Gala.
How to Get There
Xcaret Riviera Maya is approx 15 minutes by car from the entrance to Playacar Phase II south gated entrance across from Centro Maya. Residents who enjoy biking will be happy to know that you can take a bike path from the gated community´s entrance on the highway all the way to the inside of the park. Not only is this a convenient way to arrive but also some great exercise along a safe bike-only route. Along the way you are likely to come across the many residents of the area like iguanas, who will quickly scurry under the pavement when they see you coming, or even rarer a squirrel.
If you want to visit the Cancun Xcaret, I recommend Playa Express that leaves from Calle 2 between 20th and 25th Avenues from their parking lot. (see photo) They leave on a regular basis during the day and will leave even if not full.
Colectivos are cheaper and faster then ADO bus company but are smaller and sometimes less cool in temperature. The one way price is 34 pesos to Cancun and 22 pesos to Puerto Morelos. Keep your ticket with you at all times as proof you paid, this is true with all bus/colectivo service in Mexico.
Xcaret Park celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and the award is a reflection of the the consistency of its efforts to be one the most important destination for all segments of the market that visit the Riviera Maya each year.
